Arcetri is a district of Florence in the mountains south of the city center.

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1083. Galileo Galilei died in Arcetri on January 8, 1642.

description

There are a number of historical buildings, such as the house of Galileo Galilei (called Villa il Gioiello ), the Convent of San Matteo and the Torre del Gallo. The Arcetri Observatory ( Osservatorio Astrofisico di Arcetri ) can also be found there. The Church of San Leonardo in Arcetri is the main church in the region.
