The database is jointly owned by the participating archives.

History of the Documentation Centers

The Federal German Solidarity and Third World movement has a long and eventful history, as have the various attempts to document its themes and actions. The skills gained through this in the internationalist and development policy area have shaped the political culture of the public. This has resulted in documentation centers in various cities to this day, the materials of which are indispensable for solidarity-related and development-policy educational and public relations work.

Archive network

Twelve of these archives have come together to form the “Archive 3 - Cooperation Third World Archives” in order to organize their work more efficiently and to coordinate it better.

Thanks to the cooperation, the archives involved have brought their holdings together in a common database and, for the first time, have recorded and archived them using uniform criteria in terms of both content and form. This gives users unprecedented access to the available information.

Articles from over 220 international magazines, publications from various social movements, books, teaching materials, gray literature and audiovisual media are regularly collected in the archives. They contain valuable information about the socio-political and economic realities in the so-called Third World and in German-speaking countries, which can often hardly be found in other places, documentation centers and libraries.
