The Brockhagen archive is an independent research archive and library in Brockhagen near Steinhagen on the history of the denominational group of the apostolic communities . The archive is run by the Apostolic History Network and is considered the first of its kind.

history

The independent and non-denominational network Apostolic History , founded in 2008, contacted the New Apostolic Church in North Rhine-Westphalia at the end of 2010 to examine the possibility of setting up an independent archive with a library in a former church building. After a year of consultation and examination, the District Church President Armin Brinkmann left a profaned church building to the network for a symbolic monthly fee of one euro. The usage contract does not provide any conditions or requirements for the archival design.

From January 2012, the renovation and expansion of the building began, which was completed after six months with the opening on June 30, 2012. All work was financed by donations from the association. Church and municipal representatives were present at the opening, as were over 100 interested guests and club members.

The building was renovated from autumn 2018 to spring 2019. Among other things, the window surfaces were replaced with modern glazing, which is provided with a film.

The archive is given special importance as it is currently the only independent archive on the history of the apostolic faith communities. Smaller church-owned archives are generally inaccessible or difficult to access for the general public, church members and interested parties. Cross-community archives or libraries in the field of the apostolic did not previously exist.

building

The standard 100 type church building erected in 1978 is located at Uhlandstrasse 6 in Brockhagen near Steinhagen. It has a usable area of 214 m² and consists of a ground floor and two additional floors, both of which are not fully developed. The reading and seminar room with regular 50 seats as well as a reference library and exhibition cabinets is located on the ground floor. In addition to the sound and media archive, the actual book archive is set up on the upper floor. These rooms are accessible by prior arrangement. Research in the archive can be arranged with the network. In 2019 the building was renovated and, among other things, all window fronts were replaced by new windows with graphic elements.

Archival material

The Network Apostolic History has been collecting documents, audio material, photos and objects relating to the apostolic faith communities since 2009. So far, around 6,500 media have been cataloged. Thousands of other media are waiting to be cataloged and stored. The inventory also includes unique items and rare writings, such as early records of the activities of the Catholic-Apostolic clergy in Germany from 1847.

In addition to archive material, the Brockhagen Archive offers an extensive reference library for browsing on opening days, as well as interesting exhibits on the history of the Apostles.

opening hours

The archive is open to interested parties every third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lectures and events are also offered regularly.
