Investment fraud case

In 2007 - during his tenure as District Apostle - Armin Brinkmann invested around 10 million euros in church funds in a financial transaction. As it became publicly known in 2012, he and his financial advisers were caught by a fraud. The Church lost all of its money on the deal. Since Brinkmann acted against the constitution of the district church and did not include the state executive in this decision as prescribed, criminal proceedings were initiated against him. However, this was discontinued soon afterwards.

On October 7, 2012, following a divine service in Duisburg, the District Apostle apologized and admitted mistakes. In the same divine service, the Apostle Rainer Storck was appointed as District Apostle Helper and successor to Brinkmann.
