The archive of the Hanover region was brought into being in 1978 as the archive of the then district of Hanover . Its task is to secure and permanently store documents that were created by the regional administration and its legal predecessors and that are of lasting value for legal security and research. In addition, the archive builds up additional holdings on the history of the region. The archive is located at Landestrost Castle in Neustadt am Rübenberge.
On November 1, 2001, the Hanover region took the place of the Hanover district with expanded responsibilities. She also took over the tasks of the previously independent municipal association for the greater Hanover area. The district archive became the archive of the Hanover region.
staff
The archive was headed by Roswita Kattmann for 34 years before Sebastian Post took over this task in August 2012. He is supported by a full-time employee.
Stocks
The archive is based on documents from the districts of Burgdorf, Hanover, Linden (1885–1932), Neustadt am Rübenberge and Springe (1885–1974), founded in 1885, and the legal successor district of Hanover (1974–2001).
Files and the like take up the largest space within the archive. Documents from the departments of the regional administration and their predecessors. The archive of the city of Neustadt a. Rbge., Private letter collections, smaller company archives and an extensive reference library on the history of the region to the holdings of the archive.
In 2015 the archive took over the administration's image archive and has been presenting excerpts from the image holdings in its own portal "Image Archive Region Hannover" since June 2017.
