Location of Muff

The Ardmore Gallen Stone (also called Ardmore Gallan or Muff Stone) is a menhir ( English Standing Stone ) near Muff in County Donegal in Ireland . Gallan is likely derived from the Irish term gallán for menhir.

The cuboid menhir, with a natural central depression on one side, stands on the Inishowen peninsula , above Loch Foyle , in a field about 1.6 km northeast of the village of Muff. It is about 2.1 meters high and 0.9 meters wide and deep. On its south side, it is decorated with around 40 bowls and swirl patterns, around half of which are surrounded by one to three rings. Such stones are generally dated to the Bronze Age.
