Areias de Vilar is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the northern Portuguese district of Barcelos . The community had 1364 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
As part of the regional reform on September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of Areias de Vilar and Encourados were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Areias de Vilar e Encourados . Areias de Vilar is the seat of this newly formed municipality.
