Ares Galaxy is a free file sharing - client for the Ares network. It was programmed in Delphi and runs under Windows .

history

According to the developer , the network protocol used is similar to FastTrack , which is used in Kazaa , among others . At the beginning of development in 2002 a Gnutella -like protocol was used; after six months of development, however, a change was made.

In January 2006, Ares was the second most downloaded program on SourceForge after eMule .

In April 2006 the Ares network had around 1.0 million simultaneous users.

Because Ares and Gnutella use the same hash function for the distributed hash table, you can use giFT to exchange a file in both networks in parallel.

Like Kazaa , Ares is particularly suitable for exchanging smaller files such as pieces of music or video clips. This is u. a. can be traced back to the fragmentation into relatively small file chunks during the exchange (mostly about 256 kB), which leads to considerable speed gains, especially with multisourcing, since more users can load at the same time.
