Aria is a free ( GNU General Public License ) download manager / accelerator for Unix- like operating systems such as Linux or BSD .
The program is multilingual and uses GTK + to display the graphical user interface . It supports the protocols HTTP , HTTPS , FTP and SFTP . The current further development Aria2 also supports BitTorrent and Metalinks .
Other functions are pause and resume as well as simultaneous downloading and segmenting of the transfer process for the purpose of speeding up.
Aria can be integrated into Mozilla web browsers ( Firefox , Mozilla Application Suite , SeaMonkey ) via the FlashGot extension .
Development of the original Aria ceased in December 2002. Since February 17, 2006, the application has been further developed as a text-based console application under the name aria2 .
