Arimphaei

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Arimphaei were an ancient Central Asian people who, according to Pliny ( Natural History 6, 34 ), lived on the other side of the Riphae , in Lytharmis, a Celtic peninsula on the Karambukis River.

The Arimphaei lived in the woods, ate berries and had mild customs. They considered long hair to be shameful, both for men and women. They were holy people to their neighbors and they did not harass them or the people who had found refuge with them. They were similar to the Hyperboreans . Beyond the Arimphaei lived the Scythians , Kissier , Anten , Georgi and a tribe of the Amazons , up to the Caspian and Hyrcanic Seas.

Phillips assumes that they are identical to Herodotus Argippaioi ( Histories 4, 23 ).
