The Arion Bank is an Icelandic bank, as to the 21 November 2009 Kaupthing Bank changed its name.

After the nationalization of the bank in the crisis year 2008, the name at that time was initially changed to Neue Kaupthing Bank , with the change of name and logo in November 2009, among other things, the discontinuity with the predecessor institution, the new beginning and the change in management should be underlined. The new name is derived from the horse Areion from Greek mythology or the Greek poet Arion from Lesbos .

In 2014, the bank had 969 employees, of which 911 were full-time employees and around 87% are owned by the former shareholders of Kaupthing Bank and 13% by the Icelandic state, which holds its shares through a holding company ; in the long term, all shares in Arion and in the Landsbanki , which is also supported , are to be sold. In the 2015 financial year, the bank's figures were audited by the auditing company Deloitte . An IPO is currently expected in April 2017.

In addition to the company's headquarters in the Icelandic capital Reykjavík, there are around 25 branches in Iceland.
