Aristazabal Island is an island off the coast of the Canadian province of British Columbia . The 420 km² large, uninhabited island with a coastline of 171 km was named in 1792 by the Spanish captain Jacinto Caamaño , who named it after the then well-known Spanish captain Gabriel de Aristazábal . On his later trip, George Vancouver took this name into his card, but with a typo.
The island is on the Hecate Strait . East of the island is Princess Royal Island and west of the island is Haida Gwaii . To the north is the Estevan Group and Campania Island and to the south Swindle Island and Price Island . Like most of the islands in the northern part of the coast of the province, it is counted as part of the Great Bear Rainforest .
The island can only be reached by boat or plane. Today the island is uninhabited.
