Arithmomancy

Arithmomancy is an ancient Greek divination technique using numbers. The expression is made up of the words ἀριϑμός arithmós ( number ) and μαντεία manteía ( fortune telling ) . A certain value was assigned to each letter . In fights, for example, it was predicted which of the opponents would win, ie the fighter whose name has the higher value.

This technique was also very common in Mesopotamia .
