In heraldry , the heraldry understands armatures to be all popular heraldic accessories that are placed in front of, behind or next to the heraldic shield and are only used for excessive decoration. For this purpose flags are counted as in larger numbers, cannons and rifles, as gems are to enhance the coat of arms, or stacked ammunition and cannon balls. Even the larger number of historical weapons such as lances and halberds are included. However, they are not necessary gems.

This decoration appeared in the 18th century. A valve is not considered to have grown historically and is also considered unheraldic.
