The Army Memorial 1866 is a Bavarian memorial cross for the participants in the 1866 campaign .

Foundation, endowment

The honorary badge was donated by King Ludwig II of Bavaria on August 25, 1866 :

... in memory of this year's campaign, for all those who went through it and took part in its hardships and dangers. "

- Royal deed of foundation 1866

The cross was therefore only awarded to members of the mobile army , not to officers and men who were active in the stage.

Obverse : In the medallion, within an oak wreath bound above and below, the crowned lion striding to the left on a diamond background.

Reverse : In the medallion, within an oak wreath bound above and below, the raised date "1866" in light bronze.

Ribbon : 35 mm wide, white, with two sky-blue, 4.5 mm wide side and edge stripes, between them a white line 1 mm wide.

Carrying method : on the left chest.

Others

There was a larger, gilded and multi-colored enamelled special order as a neck medal for Prince Carl of Bavaria (great uncle King Ludwig II), who was then the commander of the 7th German Federal Army Corps. The one-off was never worn by the prince, as he retired from all military offices after the unfortunate course of the Main campaign in 1866 and died in 1875. It came into the collection of the Bavarian Army Museum .
