Armen Harutjunjan ( Armenian Արմեն Հարությունյան , English transcription Armen Harutyunyan ; born March 7, 1964 in Yerevan ) is an Armenian lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Harutjunjan studied law at the Yerevan State University from 1981 to 1986 . He then did his doctorate at the Institute for Political Science and Law of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR , where he was named a candidate for the German doctorate in 1989 . He then worked as an assistant professor of constitutional and international law at the Yerevan State University. After his habilitation in 1997 he became a full professor there. From 1997 he was a member of the constitutional reform commission of Armenia and at the same time worked as an advisor to the Armenian Constitutional Court. In 2002 Harutjunjan left the University of Yerevan and became rector of the Armenian Academy of Public Administration. From 2002 to 2011 he was also deputy representative of Armenia at the Venice Commission . From 2011 to 2014 he was Regional Representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia .

In June 2015, Harutjunjan was elected as the successor to Alwina Gjulumjan as representative of Armenia as judge at the European Court of Human Rights . He took up his term of office, which is expected to last until 2024, on September 17, 2015.
