The Armenian National Library ( arm. Hayastani Azgayin Gradaran ) in Yerevan is the national library of Armenia .
history
Today's national library goes back to the library of the Yerevan grammar school founded in 1832 . Between 1925 and 1990 the library was named after Alexander Mjasnikow (Armenian Alexander Mjasnikjan ). This library became the Armenian National Library in 1990.
The current main building was built in 1939 and is the work of the neoclassical architect Alexander Tamanjan .
Stocks and usage
The library has the world's largest collection of Armenian printed literature, including a copy of Urbatagirk , the first printed book in the Armenian language (Venice 1512). As of January 1, 2015, the library had more than 6.3 million media items. It is used by around 900 people every day and lends out around 1.5 million media units per year.
