Arrano Beltza

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arrano Beltza ( Basque for black eagle ) is an ancient symbol of sovereignty of the Kingdom of Navarre . It is used, in particular as a flag on a yellow background, by Basque left-wing nationalist circles as a symbol for the entire Basque Country . The flag is often preferred by these circles to the official flag of the Basque Country Autonomous Community , the irciña , as the older symbol.

The Arrano Beltza was the sign of King Sancho VII the Strong of Navarre (1194 to 1234).
