history

There is still no documentary evidence of the castle, which was founded after pottery finds during the second half of the 11th century or a little earlier. On March 19, 1422, the name St. Ruprecht was given in a sales deed as the name of a nearby parcel, “St. Ruprechts Acker ”, mentioned for the first time, but this was not the name of the castle. The name St. Ruprecht shows that the property probably belonged to a church, perhaps a monastery settlement of the St. Trudpert monastery was built on the site of the castle after its destruction , which is also attested as St. Ruprecht during the 13th century. After the monastery no longer existed, the name St. Ruprecht was transferred to the ruins of the former castle, which were kept as the remains of the monastery. In a map from 1721 a ruin was labeled as St. Ruprecht, but directly below it, a “Bürckpläzle” is mentioned.

According to Schmitt, it may have been Niederwartstein Castle, which was destroyed by the imperial city of Ravensburg in 1359 , after Bizer's ceramics evaluation, the castle complex was abandoned again in the second half of the 12th century.

Of the former castle complex with a base area of 80 × 50 meters, separated from the ridge by a large neck ditch , only remains of the wall can be seen.
