history

A "Ulricus de Mundisberc" is mentioned in 1258 from the castle built in the 13th century by the Lords of Monsberg. On April 21, 1379, Count Konrad von Aichelberg sold the castle with all its accessories to Hans vom Stein zu Klingenstein and from 1405 to 1411 all Monsberg possessions went to the Zwiefalten monastery . In July 1495, the castles Monsberg and Wartstein are destroyed. The castle was given up as a residence and fell into disrepair. In 1515 the Burgstall became the property of the Dukes of Bavaria and on July 6, 1593 it became a fiefdom of the Barons von Speth. In 1848 the ruins became the property of the Erbstetten municipality. The ministerials of Stuben are also said to have been former owners . Monsberg Castle was also called the "Castle of Munt", probably a ministerial of the Counts of Wartstein.

Remnants of the wall, presumably a residential tower , are still preserved from the castle complex within the former core castle , as well as remains of a cellar vault and a neck ditch .
