Arthur Ciaramicoli

Arthur P. Ciaramicoli is a Boston-based now established American clinical psychologist who taught at Harvard Medical School's psychology department from 2000 to 2005.

Ciaramicoli is with publications about the treatment of addictions and the term empathy as well as with various television appearances, z. B. on the Paula Gordon Show. His work on empathy ( The Power of Empathy ) from 2000 has been translated into seven languages. The German translation of The Empathy Factor was published in 2001 by Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag. In essence, Ciaramicoli developed Heinz Kohut's concept of empathy further by defining empathy as the ability to understand another person's thoughts and feelings. He differentiates between authentic empathy that builds lasting relationships and functional empathy that pursues manipulative or exploitative goals. The abuse can have different dimensions, from mild forms as they appear in advertising psychology to sadistic forms in torture .
