Artificial Animal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Artificial Animal is the technical term for computer-simulated (animal) living beings. The term is mostly used for simulations that are far more complicated than a simple representation of animals and their movement, such as is used in computer games .

A simulation of an artificial animal includes a number of different aspects in addition to the graphic representation. It often consists of an interplay of physics , cognitive abilities , interaction with the environment and a more or less pronounced form of intelligence . These aspects are implemented in different layers ("layers"); this leads to an adaptively complex system , the behavior of which is only partially predictable (although deterministic).

One of the first real artificial animal simulations were the characters in the computer game Creatures (called "Norns"). AA simulations can be used to some extent in entertainment culture (computer games, simulated autonomous AAs in films). In addition, there is a tendency to practice so-called in silico biology with the help of AAs. H. Obtain information on biological behavior (e.g. swarm behavior ) from observation of the simulation. In addition, a swarm of simple artificial animals can be used to solve optimization problems, for example with the so-called ant algorithm .
