Artillery computer type BUM

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The artillery computer BUM was the first electronic Feuerleitrechengerät for the brigade artillery in the army of the Bundeswehr .

The determination of the fire commands was considerably accelerated by the introduction of this analog computer . Its use led to more precise results, as there was no need to create and maintain a fire control plan. Only the shot value improvement for the earth's rotation had to be taken from the shot board . The calculation slip for the formation of the fire command remained in use.

The portable computer (weight: 49 kg) contained only one ballistic program each for a certain type of gun:

  • BUM 11 for PzH 155 mm, M109G
  • BUM 12 for FH 105 mm (L)
  • BUM 13 for GebH 105 mm.

With a 30 m long power supply cable (24 V), the computer could also be operated remotely from the fire control armored vehicle.
