Artists Unlimited is an artist house in Bielefeld .

founding

The Künstlerhaus has been operated by the Artists Unlimited eV association in the former Opitz paper mill in the center of Bielefeld since 1985 . The association was founded by students from the Bielefeld design department, artists and like-minded people to offer creative work and living together. In the same year, the 2000 m² of the old paper factory was converted into living and working rooms with a lot of personal work.

Today's meaning

Today Artists Unlimited is a place that has enriched Bielefeld's cultural life through numerous initiatives. The idea of Bielefeld events such as open studios and the Carnival of Cultures can be traced back to the residents and guest artists of Artists Unlimited .

29 artists, designers and cultural workers currently live and work in the building, complementing and enriching each other. A separate gallery was opened in the building in 1987, in which 220 exhibitions had already been seen by 2010.

In April 2009 the association was invited to take part in the exhibition "The Bielefelder Feeling", which was on view at the Bielefelder Kunstverein .

Regular events

The art association is regularly the experimental field for various artists. In 2009 alone, 14 exhibitions were shown.

Every year in summer, the well-known Artists Unlimited benefit party takes place, from the proceeds of which the guest artist grant, which is awarded three times a year, is financed.

Guest artist

For three times a year, the association offers a three-month work grant, with which the guest artists receive an apartment, a studio and a small income. The expenses for the guest artists are financed by donations, usually through benefit events that the association organizes several times a year. Up to 2010, more than 70 mostly foreign artists worked in the guest studios, including Pip Cozens (GB / DE), Paul Haywood (DE), Claus van Bebber (DE), Birgit Cauer (DE), Nicola Dormagen (DE), Anne Schlöpke (DE), Ben Gwilliam (GB), Laila Evensen (NO) and Bob Levene (GB).
