The Bielefelder Kunstverein eV . is a non-profit and registered association based in Bielefeld , which is dedicated to the mediation of contemporary art . The head of the association Thomas Thiel took over as director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Siegen on April 1, 2019 . Nadine Droste took over the art association as director.

history

The Bielefelder Kunstverein is the sponsor of the Museum Waldhof, which is located in one of the oldest buildings in the city, in an aristocratic palace from the 16th century in the Weser Renaissance style . The association was founded in 1929 and today has more than 1000 members. According to its own information, it is one of the largest art associations in Germany.

Positions

The Kunstverein is an exhibition center for contemporary painting , photography and graphics , installation , video art and architecture and also organizes guided tours and lecture series and other events to promote contemporary art and artists. It organizes five to six exhibitions a year that present and evaluate current developments in the visual arts. Accompanying catalogs provide more detailed information on individual artists or thematic contexts.

Awards

In 2014 the Kunstverein received the ADKV-ART COLOGNE Prize for Art Associations from the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Kunstvereine and Art Cologne . The courage to present new artistic positions surprisingly, to innovate and to enable participation were praised.
