Penny Johnson Jerald (born March 14, 1961 ) is an American actress .

Life

Jerald was best known for the role of Sherry Palmer in the first seasons of the television series 24 . She has made many guest appearances on popular television series such as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , The X Files - The FBI's Scary Cases , Frasier , Grace , Cosby and Practice - The Lawyers . In 2003, Johnson Jerald played US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in DC 9/11: Time of Crisis . From 2007 to 2008 she played the role of Dean Etwood in the drama series October Road . From the fourth to the seventh season, she was seen as Captain Victoria Gates in the crime series Castle . Since 2017 she has been in the science fiction series The Orville in the role of ship doctor Dr. Claire Finn.
