Arturo Herbruger Asturias

Arturo Herbruger Asturias (born June 3, 1912 - October 25, 1999 ) was a Guatemalan politician .

biography

After attending school, he studied law and was President of the Supreme Court between 1949 and 1953 (Corte Suprema de Justicia de Guatemala). He later served as attorney general and treasury minister.

In 1983 he was the founder and until 1993 chairman of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, which oversaw the 1984 elections to the National Constituent Assembly and the 1985 and 1990 presidential elections. After the unsuccessful coup d'état of May 25, 1993 against President Jorge Antonio Serrano Elias , he was appointed Vice-President on June 6, 1993 after Ramiro de León Carpio was appointed President and held this office until January 14, 1996.

Until his death he was a member of the Central American Parliament, which includes 120 representatives from Guatemala, Honduras , Panama , Nicaragua , El Salvador and the Dominican Republic .
