Aru valley

Aru is a hill station in the homonymous valley in the district of Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir , India . Aru is about 12 km from Pahalgam . It is a base for the route to Kolhoi Glacier and Tarsar Lake. The Aru a tributary of the Lidder flows through the valley.

Aru is known for its mountain meadows .

The Hill Station is the starting point for hikes to the Kolahoi Glacier, the mountain lakes Tarsar, Marsar, Vishansar and Kishansar. The Kolahoi glacier is the largest glacier in Kashmir Valley and lies on Kolahoi (5425 m), the highest peak of the Kashmir Valley.

There are about 20 mountain lakes, peaks and mountain pastures in the Aru Valley. In winter, skiing and heli- skiing are possible as a lot of snow falls.

Overa-Aru Biosphere Reserve

The Overa Aru Biosphere Reserve is 76 km from Srinagar. It is a wildlife sanctuary with an area of ​​511 km². It lies at an altitude of 3000 m to 5425 m and is home to numerous endangered animal species.
