Arye Maimon Institute for the History of the Jews

The Arye Maimon Institute for the History of the Jews (AMIGJ) is a scientific institution of the University of Trier . It was founded in the winter semester 1996/97 as the Institute for the History of the Jews (IGJ) by Alfred Haverkamp and renamed on November 4, 1998 to honor the life and work of Arye Maimon .

The institute is dedicated to researching the history of Jews primarily in Central and Western Europe, with a focus on the Middle Ages and the early modern period. Within this framework, it is involved in the promotion and preparation of publications and conferences as well as in the coordination of activities in the field of the history of the Jews. In addition, it offers domestic and foreign guests the opportunity to do academic work. International contacts exist with researchers and institutions in Israel, France, England, Italy, Spain and the USA.

Several research projects funded by the DFG have already been completed. Currently, u. a. a long-term project, the aim of which is to publish a comprehensive collection of medieval sources on the history of the Jews in the Reich . Since 2006, it has been headed by a board of directors that includes Haverkamp and Professors Lukas Clemens and Stephan Laux from Trier . The board of directors is supported by a scientific advisory board, the work is coordinated by an executive officer, currently Christoph Cluse .
