Asahi Composition Prize for Wind Orchestra
The Asahi Composition Award for Wind Orchestra ( Japanese 朝日 作曲 賞 , Asahi Sakkyokushō , English Asahi Composition Award for Wind Orchestra ) is a Japanese music award that has been awarded annually since 1990 as part of a composition competition for wind orchestras. He is under the patronage of the newspaper Asahi Shimbun and the " All-Japanischen Blasmusikvereinigung " (English "All Japan Band Association", short: AJBA). The aim is on the one hand to promote new compositions for brass music . On the other hand, there is a competition section in which an examination piece is presented.
Until 2007, a three to four minute march had to be performed as a test piece, alternating with a piece of music other than a march in the following year. Since 2007, all original pieces performed by brass orchestras have also been admitted as compulsory or examination pieces. The composition or piece of music awarded in one year is also the examination piece for the part of the competition held in the following year. In addition to this award, there is also the " Asahi Composition Prize for Choirs " of the same name . The official name is thus "Asahi Composition Prize". To distinguish between the two prices, the brass music category is explicitly stated in the title.
