All-Japanese Brass Band Association
The All-Japanese Brass Music Association ( Japanese 一般 社 団 法人 全 日本 吹奏 楽 連 盟 , Ippan Shadan Hōjin Zennihon Suisōgaku Renmei , English "All Japan Band Association", AJBA for short) is an umbrella association for brass music founded on November 11, 1939 and as such the largest organization of their kind in Japan. At the time it was founded, it was called the "Great All-Japanese Brass Music Association" ( Kyūjitai : 大 日本 吹奏 樂 聯盟 ). The name was changed to the current name on November 14, 1954 after the Second World War. Originally the association was under the jurisdiction of the Office for Cultural Affairs . The 14,265 members are organized into 11 subdivisions according to their affiliation to a greater region of Japan. There are also 62 members from city prefectures and 56 companies as sponsoring members (as of 2013). Akio Marutani has directed the brass band association since May 2013. It is headquartered in the district Chiyoda in Tokyo .
Events
The association organizes various musical events throughout the calendar year. These include:
- the " All- Japanese brass music competition" ( 全 日本 吹奏 楽 コ ン ク ー ル , Zennihon Suisōgaku Concours , English "All Japan Band Competition") has been held annually since 1940 for marching music and in cooperation with the Asahi Shimbun newspaper .
- the “ All-Japanese Elementary Band Festival” ( 全 日本 小学校 バ ン ド フ ェ ス テ ィ バ ル , Zennihon Shōgakkō Band Festival , English “All Japan Elementary Band Festival”) takes place annually in November and also in cooperation with the newspaper Asahi Shimbun.
- In addition, the association organizes since 1988 the "alljapanischen marching music competition" ( 全日本マーチングコンテスト, Zennihon Marching Contest , English. "All Japan Marching Contest"), and since 1978 the "alljapanische ensemble competition" ( 全日本アンサンブルコンテスト, Zennihon Ensemble Contest , Eng. "All Japan Ensemble Contest").
- In addition, the association organizes the Asahi Composition Prize for wind orchestras and, since 2008, the “Composition Competition of the All-Japanese Brass Music Association” ( 全 日本 吹奏 楽 連 盟 作曲 コ ン ク ー ル , Zennihon Suisōgaku Renmei Sakkyoku Concours ).
