Boris Grigoriev ( Russian Борис Дмитриевич Григорьев * June 29 jul. / 11. July  1886 greg. In Rybinsk , † 7. February 1939 in Cagnes-sur-Mer ) was a Russian avant-garde painters and poets.

Life

Grigoryev grew up in Rybinsk and studied from 1903 to 1907 at the Stroganoff School of Art in Moscow. He later enrolled at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, where he worked from 1907 to 1912 a. a. heard from Kisseljow , Kardowski and Archipow .

Grigoryev lived for some time in Paris, where he attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière . His later works were influenced by his acquaintance with Paul Cézanne .

In 1913 he returned to St. Petersburg, became part of the local bohemians and had close contact with many artists and bohemians of the time, such as Sergei Sudejkin , Velimir Khlebnikov and Anna Akhmatova , whom he often portrayed. From 1913 on he was a member of the artist group Mir iskusstwa and wrote the novella “Young rays”.

A recurring subject in his pictures was Russian country life. In the period from 1916 to 1918 he created the series of pictures Russia (Rasseja, Russian Расея ), in which he emphasized the poverty, but also the inner strength of the Russian peasants and the country. According to the art critic Alexander Benois , this series of images shows "the essence of Russia before the revolution."

Grigoryev taught at the First State Free Artistic Workshop in Moscow around 1918 , but was deposed by his students, which the school constitution at the time allowed. Some of his former students of the “group without teachers” later founded the OBMOChU .

After 1919 Grigoryev traveled through Europe, lived a. a. in Germany, France and Finland, as well as North and South America.
