The Asga pension fund , based in St. Gallen, is an autonomous Swiss pension fund for small and medium-sized companies from trade, commerce, industry and services.

As a joint pension scheme, it insures the staff of its affiliated companies under the 2nd pillar . In the area of ​​employee benefits, the company offers extra-mandatory pension solutions through the Asga pension foundation.

Organized in the legal form of a cooperative , the Asga pension fund was founded in 1962 as a self-help organization for the trade. At the end of June 2019, a total of 13,654 companies with 124,720 insured persons were affiliated. The balance sheet total is over 19 billion Swiss francs.

Asga trains two apprentices each year in the profession of "EFZ clerk".

Legal bases

The legal basis is formed by the Federal Act on Occupational Old-Age, Survivors 'and Disability Pension Plans , the Federal Act on Freedom of Movement in Occupational Old-Age, Survivors' and Disability Pension Plans and the associated ordinances. The legal basis also includes the statutes of the Asga pension fund and the cost regulations.

The highest body of the Asga Pension Fund is the delegate assembly of the members of the cooperative. This is made up of 50 employee and 50 employer representatives. history

February 23, 1962: Founders' meeting at the Hotel Walhalla in St. Gallen as Asga retirement provision of the St. Gallen-Appenzell trade and retail associations with Paul Bürgi as president. The Asga Pension Fund Cooperative was founded as a self-help organization with the aim of ensuring long-term pension provision for the industry. Paul Bürgi held the office of President for 27 years until 1989 and was then appointed Honorary President.

October 25, 1967: Move into the office space in the commercial building at Oberen Graben 12, St. Gallen.

February 21, 1969: The Asga Board of Directors decides to separate the administration from the AHV fund and to make Asga independent. Ernst Reinhart is appointed as the first managing director.

October 6, 1969: At the extraordinary general assembly, the merger with THURGA, old-age and survivors' pension of the Thurgauian trade, is decided. The new name is: ASGA Old Age and Survivors' Provision of the Eastern Swiss Industry (Pension Fund).

March 5, 1982: Revision of the statutes and change of name to ASGA pension fund of the trade.

January 1, 1985: The Federal Act on Occupational Old-Age, Survivors' and Disability Pension Plans (BVG) comes into force. Employers must register all employees with an annual salary of at least CHF 16,560 with a pension fund. Due to the introduction of compulsory insurance, the number of Asga policyholders doubles to 15,200 with 2,560 members.

1989: Ernst Dobler is elected Chairman of the Board of Directors.

May 2, 1995: The delegates' assembly is the supreme body of Asga. 50 employer and 50 employee representatives are elected as delegates. Niklaus Sutter replaces Ernst Dobler as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

2002: Retirement of the managing director Ernst Reinhart. Marcel Berlinger takes over the position of managing director.

May 11, 2004: The statutes are revised at the delegates' meeting. The new name is: ASGA pension fund for SMEs from trade, commerce, industry and services. Instead of the board of directors and the administrative committee, an administrative board is now responsible for running the cooperative.

November 1, 2004: Move into the new office building on Rosenbergstrasse. 16, St. Gallen. Asga has 57 employees.

April 24, 2008: Niklaus Sutter resigns as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Guido Sutter is newly elected.

2012: Retirement of the managing director Marcel Berlinger. Sergio Bortolin takes over the position of managing director.

Spring 2014: Asga’s total assets reached the 10 billion mark for the first time.

June 14, 2015: Asga is honored for the seventh time with an award for the lowest administrative costs in the industry comparison (SonntagsZeitung / Weibel Hess & Partner AG)

May 2016: Election of Stefan Bodmer as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Asga hires its 100th employee.

2017: Asga turns 55 and the number of policyholders already exceeds 100,000.

May 2018: Amendment of the Articles of Association and change of name to Asga Pensionskasse Genossenschaft.

May 2019: Re-election of the Chairman of the Board of Directors Stefan Bodmer for a further term of 4 years.
