Ashé
Ashé (Àşe, Aché, Axé, from Yoruba àṣẹ ) is the universal life energy in the Yoruba religion , which works in the Yoruba cosmos in the invisible area (òrun) and the visible area (aye) . It is not only present in all living beings and objects, but also in all immaterial spiritual beings ( orishas and ancestors), prayers , songs and gestures .
Ashé decreases in the course of time despite a "good character" (ìwa pèlé) and has to be recharged through religious rituals (including animal sacrifices ).
The name of the Brazilian musical style Axé is derived from Ashé .
