Ascalabos
Ascalabus ( Greek Ἀσκάλαβος , Latin Ascalabus ) is a son of Misme in Greek mythology .
myth
The goddess Demeter (Roman god name Ceres ) came, exhausted and thirsty, to the house of Misme when she was looking for her kidnapped daughter , who received her kindly and gave her kykeon to drink. As she drank the kykeon in one go, Ascalabus mocked the goddess, whereupon she turned him into a star lizard .
As a result of a scholion to the Theriacs of Nicandros , Ascalabus was identified with a son of Metaneira named Abas . But it is probably simply a mistake: Demeter was the guest of Metaneira during their search and Abas is the name of a son of Poseidon and Arethusa , both figures of mythology involved in the story of the robbery of Persephone.
