Aso (clan)

The Aso ( Japanese 阿蘇氏 ) were an old family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ). It was traced back to Kan-ya-i-mimi no mikoto (神 八 井 耳 命), a son of Emperor Jimmu .

prehistory

Asotsu-hiko no mikoto, a son of Kan-ya-i-mimi, was made Aso-kuni no miyatsuku (阿蘇國 宮 造). His descendants therefore called themselves Aso. You were entrusted with the supervision of the Aso Shrine in Higo Province (now Kumamoto Prefecture ) during the reign of Emperor Keiko .

  • Korekuni (惟 國)
  • Korezumi (惟 澄), a son of Korekuni, supported the southern court during the time of the separate imperial courts . He was defeated in 1336 by Ashikaga Takauji near Tatara-hama (多 々 良 浜; Chikuzen Province ), together with Kikuchi Taketoshi, but continued to support Prince Yasunaga. Korezumi resided at Yabe Castle (矢 部 城) in Chikugo Province .
  • Korenao (惟 直; † 1336) was killed in the battle of Tatara-hama.
  • Koretoyo (惟 豊; † 1584) was a descendant who resided at Yabe Castle with a substantial income of 300,000 koku .
  • Koremitsu (惟 光; 1581–1593), a son of Koretoyos, was only a child when his father died. When the province of Higo was divided between Konishi Yukinaga and Katō Kiyomasa in 1588 , he sought refuge with Kiyomasa. However, Toyotomi Hideyoshi ordered that he be killed. Koremitsu died when he was only 12 years old.

A descendant of the family was made a baron after the Meiji Restoration in 1868.
