The Rail Delivery Group ( RDG ), by 2017 as Association of Train Operating Companies ( ATOC ; German  Association of Railway Transport Company ), is an association representing the interests of 23 British railway companies represents. These operate passenger services on the privatized rail network of the United Kingdom . The association owns the trademark rights to National Rail and is also responsible for issuing subscriptions and licensing travel agencies with rail travel offers. The club, based in London , was founded in 1994.

activities

RDG moved beyond also the National Routeing Guide which the allowed paths texts for not zuggebundene tickets to the British domestic tariff enumerates (and thus in the broadest sense the Tfv 603 in the DB corresponds), and makes it available online (see Web below).

RDG markets centrally managed offers for the railway industry in Great Britain via its subsidiary ATOC Ltd, such as Railcards (discount cards that correspond to the BahnCard in Germany or the Half-Fare Card in Switzerland, but for certain demographically or geographically limited customer groups).

In addition, a central booking and reservation system ( NRS - National Reservations System ) is operated on behalf of RDG , which is used by the distribution facilities of the railway companies and third parties to receive fare information for allotmented savings prices and to book reservations.

The subsidiary Rail Settlement Plan (RSP) distributes the income from the sale of tickets via the electronic ORCATS system ( Operational Research Computerized Allocation of Tickets to Services ) and, together with Network Rail, organizes the creation of timetables for the entire railway network. In this way, the railway companies appear uniformly towards the passengers. RSP also draws up guidelines on the format and electronic readability of tickets and railcards and accredits ticket distribution systems.

history

In the course of the railway privatization in Great Britain, the ATOC was founded in 1993 in order to maintain the common tariff system established during the time of the state railway.

A similar organization existed from the mid-19th century until all British railways were nationalized in 1948, the Railway Clearing House .

In 2013, responsibility for press and political communication was transferred to the Rail Delivery Group, a joint working group of ATOC and Network Rail .

From October 24, 2016, the former ATOC took over the name Rail Delivery Group for all functions.

The German counterpart of the RDG is the collective bargaining association of federal and non-federal railways in Germany (TBNE), which, however, only distributes the income. The TBNE does not market rail travel offers, this is the responsibility of the individual RUs. The activities of the TBNE are also limited to local transport, so that journeys with long-distance trains operated by non-federal railways (e.g. Hamburg-Cologne-Express , InterConnex ) must be booked separately.

The political representation of the railway companies in Germany takes place through the competing associations Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen , Netzwerk Europäische Eisenbahnen and mofair e. V. instead.
