Association of University Presses

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of University Presses (International Association of University Presses) eV is an international non-profit association of university publishers, their members and regional associations of university publishers. It was founded in January 2014 in Bochum as a result of an initiative by the International Convention of University Presses at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2013. The association has a name conflict with the Association of University Presses of the same name , which is a renaming of the Association of American University Presses (AAUP), which has existed since 1937.

Members

The association states on its website that it has numerous members from North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania and Australia and that it would offer a multilingual forum for university publishers. According to the association, the members dedicate their work to the scientific community and the common good and play a social role in education, knowledge dissemination and social progress. However, there is no verification of association membership outside of the association's website.

tasks and goals

The members face the same challenges of non-commercial scientific publication in short runs and new developments in digitization. The association promotes innovative solutions by encouraging publishers with " best practice " solutions to share their solutions with all members. One goal is to create a platform with easy access to all member publications.

Support other associations

The association supports like-minded regional associations (e.g. Association of American University Presses) and other like-minded initiatives such as Open Access or the International Convention of University Presses at the Frankfurt Book Fair .
