Astral Project

Astral Project ( Japanese Astral Project 月 の 光 , Astral Project - Tsuki no Hikari , translated: Astral Project - Light of the Moon ) is a manga series that was created by the illustrator Shūji Takeda together with the scenographer Caribu Marley (here under the pseudonym " marginal ") was created. The mystery manga, which has around 800 pages, was published from 2004 to 2007. It is aimed primarily at an adult, male readership and can therefore be assigned to his genre.

Masahiko is a student in Tokyo who drives high-class prostitutes to work for the yakuza as a sideline . One day he receives a call about the death of his older sister. Although he has a split relationship with his parents, he goes to their funeral and, as a last reminder of his sister, takes the CD with him that was still in the CD player in her room. When Masahiko listens to this blank CD, his soul detaches from his body and he can look down on himself. Although the experience frightens him at first, in this state he begins to increasingly wonder what could have really happened to his sister. Masahiko can return to his body.

During research he finds out that the CD recordings of the free jazz musician contain Albert Ayler , which are previously unknown alternative versions of well-known pieces by him. Masahiko undertakes further attempts at " astral projection " and can finally remove his astral body further and further. He meets other astral travelers, which raises the question of whether his sister could still be alive, even if not in her body.

Publications

The manga was published in Japan from the April 2004 issue to the March 2007 issue in individual chapters in the manga magazine Comic Beam . The Enterbrain Publishing House brought this single chapter after the first publication in the magazine and in anthologies out of which four appeared.

Astral Project is published in French by Casterman- Verlag under the label Sakka . A German translation of the four volumes took place from June 2007 to September 2008 at Carlsen Comics .
