Astrid Ströbele (* 1950 in Coverden, Schaumburg-Lippe ) is a German local politician ( SPD ) and the former mayor of Aachen for many years .

Live and act

After her school education in Bielefeld and Hanover, Astrid Ströbele completed an apprenticeship as a tax clerk and moved to Aachen in 1970.

In the meantime, Ströbele joined the SPD and was later also elected deputy chairman of her party. From 1989 to 2009 she was a member of the City Council of Aachen for four legislative terms in a row and from 1994 also took over the parliamentary chairmanship for her party. After all, Ströbele was one of three mayors of the city of Aachen from 1994 to 2009.

During this time she was particularly active as the spokesperson and head of the Housing Policy Department and was also a member of the Works Committee, Building Management, the Finance Committee and the Main Committee, as well as the Chairperson of the Housing and Property Committee.

In addition to these official obligations, she was chairwoman of the supervisory board of the Aachener Parkhausgesellschaft (APAG), was a member of the supervisory board of the Gemeinnützige Wohnungsgesellschaft AG ( gewoge ) until 2010 and a member of the special purpose association meeting of the Sparkasse Aachen and the Aachen city region .
