Astrid Wagner

Astrid Wagner (born May 13, 1963 in Fürstenfeld ) is an Austrian lawyer, criminal defense attorney and author.

Career

When she was one year old she came to Paris because of her father's job. She spent her childhood and youth in Le Vésinet near Paris and Austria. At the age of 19 she studied law in Graz and trained as an interpreter for French and Italian. After graduating in law in 1990, she gained her first experience in Graz as a legal intern at the regional court for criminal and civil law matters and at the bankruptcy court. During this time she was nominated as a candidate for the Styrian state parliament.

From 1992 to 1997 Wagner worked as a lawyer at the Austrian Tenants' Association / Styrian Regional Organization. In 1993 she was appointed regional chairman of this organization. During this activity she gained experience and knowledge in tenancy law . At the beginning of the 1990s, she processed the "Trial of the Century" around Jack Unterweger legally and criminologically in a book. As an independent lawyer, she wrote a dissertation in criminal law that are critical to the Austrian system of justice with jurors apart sets.

From 1997 she worked for two law firms in Vienna with a focus on tenancy and housing law, marriage and family law, social security law, aliens law and contract law. Astrid Wagner passed her bar exam in April 2000. A year later she opened her own law firm near the Winter Palace of Prince Eugene of Savoy.

In 2014 Astrid Wagner launched the citizens' initiative More rights for animals .
