Astygites

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Astygites is a figure from Greek mythology , and there passed down as the son of Argaios , a highly respected inhabitant of Melite , and brother of Aspalis .

When his sister learned of the intention that the ruthless ruler in power in Melite at the time was planning to kidnap her and rape her before her wedding, as he had done with many other beautiful virgins, she hanged herself to avoid this fate.

Before it became known that she had committed suicide , Astygites vowed that he would take revenge on the ruler before he even took away the body of his sister. Then he put on Aspalis ' dress and hid his sword under it on the left side. Not least because of his still childish countenance, it was now possible for him to penetrate easily and undetected into the ruler's chambers, where he slew him. When the Melites heard of the liberation of their city from the tyrannan, they wreathed Astygites and accompanied him to cheers.
