Astylos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Astylos literally means "without a column ". This temple is built like a simple Ante temple , but without columns between the Antes . If the antennae were not used in the construction, one speaks of a megaron . The astylos is the simplest known form of roofed temple construction. It is of non-Greek (pre-Greek) origin and can also be found in Mycenaean times .

A temple in which the antas are also present on the back of the cella is called a double astylos. Such a temple can be found e.g. B. in Nuragher settlements like Dòmu d'Urxia in Sardinia .
