Ātanaḫ-Šamaš

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The name Ātanaḫ-Šamaš (Atanach-Shamash) appears in two Middle Baylon texts from Dur Kurigalzu (room 5 of "Unit C", Tell el-Abyad). They have been interpreted by some researchers as the names of Kassite kings. The name form is purely Babylonian, but it could also be the translation of a Kassite name. Jaritz (1957) therefore wants to identify Ātanaḫ-Šamaš with the Babylonian king Shagarakti-Shuriasch .
