Athamania

Athamania was an ancient state in northern Greece .

The Athamanians took part during the 4th century BC. At the First Corinthian League and the Second Attic Sea League . During the third century, Athamania was mostly under the control of Epeiros .

Under King Amynandros , the Athamanians were able to live between 220 and 190 BC. Claim against the neighboring powers by changing alliances several times. As a prize for their neutrality in the First Macedonian-Roman War , they received the island of Zakynthos from Philip V of Macedonia. In the second war against Philip, however, Athamania supported the Romans. During the Roman-Syrian War , King Amynandros tried to install his brother-in-law Philip of Megalopolis on the Macedonian throne with the help of the Seleucids and Aitolians . From 190 BC The Athamanians were subordinate allies of the Romans .
