Athenodorus of Byzantium

Athenodorus (also: Athenogenes ) († 148 ) was bishop of Byzantion . His term is to the years 144 dated -148, the city as Zeuxippos under Emperor Antoninus Pius ruled. During this time, the Christian population in Byzantium is said to have grown strongly. Athenodorus commissioned the building of a church in Elaia, which from then on served as the seat of the bishops in place of the old church of Argyroupolis. The church of Elaia was later extensively renovated by Emperor Constantine the Great , who wanted to be buried in it, but a different resting place was decided. Athenodorus' successor was Euzois .
