Atlantic 252

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Atlantic 252 was an Irish private broadcaster that broadcast a pop music program that could also be received in Germany on the long wave frequency of 252 kHz. With the broadcast of current pop music, the station practically had a unique selling point in the long-wave range, since the majority of the other stations are more of an informational nature with a high proportion of speech. Atlantic 252 was a joint project of Irish broadcaster Radio Telefís Éireann (RTÉ) and the RTL group . The UK and Ireland were targeted for this commercial radio program . Atlantic 252 had to cease broadcasting towards the end of 2001 because the Irish government was unwilling to renew the license. Today Irish Radio broadcasts its RTÉ Radio 1 program on this frequency. A special trademark of the station were the first promos, which were produced on analogue tapes by Bumper Morgen from Nashville, TN until the early 1990s . With his deep, distinctive voice, he helped the station achieve an image that was often copied.
