Atlantic Fleet
Atlantic Fleet ( German Atlantic Fleet) was the name for a fleet association of the British Royal Navy .
In the history of the Royal Navy, sub-formations were formed to form the Atlantic Fleet twice . In 1909, the Atlantic Fleet was set up for the first time in the course of restructuring measures by the Royal Navy. The rapid growth of the Imperial German Navy forced the Royal Navy to restructure the fleet again shortly before the outbreak of World War I in 1914. So the Atlantic Fleet was finally merged with the Home Fleet and renamed Grand Fleet .
After the end of the First World War, the British fleet was restructured again after the German Empire was defeated and its deep-sea fleet was no longer present as a possible enemy in the North Sea . In the course of these measures, the Atlantic Fleet was formed again in order to better represent the new political and economic realities in Europe from the perspective of Great Britain at sea.
After the end of the Invergordon mutiny from September 15 to 16, 1931, which had broken out on some ships of the Atlantic Fleet , it was decided in 1932 to rename the Atlantic Fleet back to Home Fleet in order to get rid of the taint of the mutiny in the Atlantic Fleet .
