The Atlin volcanic field consists of numerous ash cones and is located east of Lake Atlin in the northwest of the Canadian province of British Columbia . The largest volcanic phenomenon is Ruby Mountain, named after its strikingly colored tephra deposits on its summit and on its flanks. Oral records of miners in the area tell of an eruption of the Ruby Mountains in November 1898 and falling ash. However, investigations of the area could not confirm any evidence of an eruption in historical times, which is why the descriptions are considered unsafe.
