Atoms for Peace
Atoms for Peace ( " Atoms for Peace" ) is the title of a speech of US President Dwight D. Eisenhower on December 8, 1953 before the UN General Assembly held in New York City.
During this speech he presented his ideas about the peaceful use of nuclear energy . Nuclear energy should be used to generate energy, for example in the form of electricity and heat, as well as areas of application such as medicine, the fight against disease carriers and nutrition. According to Eisenhower, all of this should be implemented under the umbrella of an international atomic energy organization in such a way that safe and peaceful use of the radioactive material and the associated technology can be guaranteed. For this purpose, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was founded in Vienna on July 29, 1957 .
